I went into this book with zero expectations. As a result, I was blown away in the end.
The way Kim Culbertson wrote Calle made me think so much of myself as a kid. We lived many places through my school years, and I went to six different schools. I related well to Calle's feeling of being the new kid. I related well to her being withdrawn, because there were times I felt like that after a move. Calle's song journal is something I wish I'd though of.
The teenage angst was perfect, and the additional, more adult problems Calle, Sam, and Cass dealt with seemed to fall in line with the way I remember some of my friends handling their stuff when they were dealt more than their fair share. All in all, a fantastic book. I'm glad I chose to read it.
